The Carte-de-Visite photograph features a seated view of the infamous General Dan Sickles, in a custom uniform coat and less commonly seen style of hat. The image is mounted to a common style card with a double line gold border pattern. Edges and corners of both the photo and card remain sharp and complete.
Written in pencil on the reverse is an incorrect label reading “Sickel” and a series of catalogue numbers (44B / 45). A stylized photographer’s back mark logo reads “Published by E & H T ANTHONY / 501 Broadway / New York / FROM / PHOTOGRAPHIC NEGATIVE / in / BRADY’S / National Portrait Gallery”. Overall measurements are 2.45” x 4”.
Few Civil War figures courted as much controversy as the famed General Sickles, making this fine image of Dan an ideal piece for the well-rounded collector of fine photographs. [cm] [ph:L]
