Abram Duryée was a Union Army general during the American Civil War, the commander of one of the most famous Zouave regiments, the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry. After the war he was New York City Police Commissioner.

A seated portrait view of Duryea is featured on the image, which is mounted to a card with a single, gold edge border. The corners show minor wear in the form of slight rolling and handling wear.  Condition is otherwise good.  The reverse is headed “Gen Duryea” in pencil and a photographer’s back mark reads “CARTES DE VISITE / D. APPLETON & CO. / 443&445 B’way / NEW YORK / A. A. TURNER / PHOTOGRAPHER”.   [cm] [ph:L]
