In this image, the “First Lady of the Confederacy” stands before a Corinthian backdrop in a fine, ruffled dress.  The photograph itself is mounted to a common card with sharp edges and corners.  A gold line border pattern follows the edges of the card and frames the image.

The card shows light surface dirt, while the edges and corners are sharp.  A penciled label at bottom reads “Mrs. Davis”.  The reverse is clean, with two canceled stamps obscuring the E. A. Anthony back mark. A cancelation stamp is dated AUG 26 186(?) – likely a “3” or a “5”.  “Mrs. Davis” is written again across the top in pencil.

A truly uncommon CDV – ideal for the collector of fine Civil War-related images.   [cm] [ph:L]
