George lived in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and was 23 years old when he enlisted on 7/21/1862 as a Private. He mustered into Company G of the 20th Michigan on 8/15/1862 and served until mustering out at Delaney House in Washington, DC (near the present National Cathedral).
The image is mounted to a plain card in good condition. The reverse is signed “Yours Truly Geo. Norton” and the center features a photographer back mark with an obscured name, but details reading “Photographer, Gay Street, Knoxville, Tennessee, Also, Army of the Ohio, in the Field.” The name is almost certainly “W.E. Prall”. Some light discoloration is noted along the front and reverse edges of the card.
A nice CDV either taken in Knoxville or in the field – a nice piece for the Civil War image collector. [cm][ph:L]
