Backmark: Brady's National Gallery, New York. Standing pose of bearded Zouave in full regalia in studio setting. CDV exhibits light soiling on both obverse and reverse, while image remains clear.
Duryea's 5th New York Zouaves was a colorful and famed two year regiment organized in New York in May 1861, forever associated with Gouvernor K. Warren who briefly served as Colonel. It was attached to the Army of the Potomac and saw heavy action at 1st Bull Run and in McClellan's Peninsula Campaign, especially during the Seven Days Battles. And again at 2nd Bull run, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. After which it was mustered out, with veterans consolidated with the 146th New York which saw action on Gettysburg’s Little Round Top.
