CDV is a three-quarter seated view of a young militiaman seated and holding a US Model 1840 Light Cavalry saber in his lap. He wears a triple breasted shell jacket with matching trouser. With a loop the Palmetto tree on several of his buttons can be discerned. His coat is of the style worn by many post war militia organizations with a high collar, horizontal piping across the chest and three button cuffs with black and gold braid.
Of interest on this subject is the two piece circular buckle on his waist belt. Unfortunately the contrast is not sharp enough to the see the device at center of the tongue.
Contrast and clarity are good. Mount is heavy cream colored stock.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for ANDERSON… CHARLESTON, S.C.
From the collection of the late William A. Turner. [ad] [ph:L]
