Image shows a collapsed wooden bridge over a mill dam with a locomotive half in the water while the box car behind it leans off the bridge abutment and is partially submerged. The view is looking up the waterway with a large mill at right and several buildings from a town dominating the background.
Contrast and clarity are good though the image is toned. Mount is good while the paper does show moderate surface dirt. Paper is trimmed at lower left corner where there is a pencil inscription that reads “THE WRECK AT CHELSIE AUG 1ST 1863.”
Reverse is blank. [ad][ph:L]
