CDV is of a young Union soldier posed seated with his hands in his lap. He displays a rather sad look on his face and almost seems to be pouting. He wears a forage cap with an oil cloth rain cover, dark shell jacket and light trousers. He is also wearing gauntlets and around his neck is a no doubt homemade knit scarf.
Contrast and clarity are excellent. Mount is trimmed along the top and the paper has minor surface dirt.
Reverse is blank but for some collector information in pencil and a modern pencil ID of “JAMES MORGAN.”
The image was purchased in the Finger Lakes region of New York however the name is too common to get a positive ID. [ad][ph:L]
