Here is a very nice carte de visite (CDV) of a Federal foot officer.
Full standing studio pose. He wears a double-breasted frock coat with shoulder straps. His M1851 eagle sword belt plate is just visible above his hands which are clasped upon the pommel of his sword held in front on him. On a table next to the officer sits a pork pie hat that clearly displays a wreath with numbers “46” in the middle. Unfortunately, it we can only guess which 46th regiment he was in.
Plain mount is untrimmed. Backmark reads, “A. HOHLE / PHOTOGRAPHER / 575 Broadway, / Bet. Prince & Houston Sts. / NEW-YORK.”
A very fine image of a Union officer. [jet][ph:jet]
