These are two 1/6 plate ambrotype photographs in a “Union” hard case. The thermoplastic case is in excellent condition. Two brass hinges and catch all in good order with only a slight wobble to the hinges. Both halves of hard case match in size and dark color. The gutta percha case features a design of a man and woman playing chess.
On the interior, left side has a man’s image and the right side an image of a woman. Both photos are under glass and feature the typical copper mat and frame assembly. The wrapped frame on the woman’s photo shows bends and crinkling. Both images have an oxidized “halo” around the parameter, not affecting the subject, and typical of ambrotypes.
A nice couple set in a nice “Union” case. [jet] [ph:L]
