Tintype is mounted on a CDV sized card under an oval paper frame with a raised border.
The subject wears a dark forage cap and dark high-collard shell jacket with light piping around the base of the collar, cloth epaulettes and three-piece buttons down the front, most likely a New York shell jacket. Held in his hand across his chest is a bar hammer pepperbox pistol.
Contrast and clarity are excellent. Mount is good with light edge dirt.
Reverse has a paper label for A. S. SOUTHWORTH’S… WALTON, N.Y. [ad] [ph:L]
