This is a full seated view of Bradford, who is wearing a dark colored frock coat, vest, trousers, white shirt and cravat. He is wearing a G.A.R. medal pinned to his vest.  He is looking down at the dark colored dog sitting on his lap.

William J. Bradford enlisted on 6/5/61 as a Corporal. On that date he mustered into Co. G, 2nd Rhode Island Infantry. Detailed as Hospital Wardmaster on 7/26/61. Promoted to Sgt. Major & transferred to Field & Staff, 2nd RI on 7/24/62; promoted to 1st Lt. & Adj. 3/20/63; granted a 10 day leave of absence on 5/27/63; promoted to Aide-de-Camp to Gen. Wheaton, 11/15/63 and transferred to Co. E;  Acting Adjutant on 6/5/64. Mustered out on 6/17/65. Bradford died in 1899 and is buried in North Burial Ground in Bristol, RI.

Image is clear with good contrast. Some very slight oxidation has occurred.

Image comes housed in half pressed paper case, which is in good condition. Decorative brass mat surrounds the image.  Accompanied by note card with modern ink identification. The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center at Carlisle, PA does have an image of Bradford but it has not been digitized.

This tintype was part of a unique collection of images that featured animals.    [sm/ld] [ph:L]
