Image shows an unidentified Union private seated in front of a painted backdrop consisting of a lone tree along one edge and a camp of “A” tents on the other. The rows of tents continue into the background.

The subject wears a dark forage cap with side buttons and chinstrap buckle that have been touched with gilt paint, a dark four-button sack coat with gilt buttons and light trousers. On the left chest of his coat, he wears a 6th Corps badge set at an angle as was often done. Just above the collar of the sack coat one can see the collar of his dark shirt with a button that has also been tinted. On one of his hands the soldier wears a pinky ring that has been touched with gilt as well.

Contrast and clarity are excellent.

Image comes in a half leather case with an ornate brass mat and stamped brass frame. [ad][ph:L]
