Outdoor camp scene shows three Union soldiers seated in front of a wedge tent on the edge of a wood. The three soldiers sit amongst a pile of haversacks, cups, canteens, plates, boilers and a coffee pot. On the ground off to the left side are three square knapsacks. All three of the men wear dark forage caps while two wear frock coats with gilt buttons while the third has removed his coat and is posed in his shirt. Two of the men have trousers that have been tinted sky-blue.  Hanging from the ridge pole of the tent is a sax horn while another hangs in the tree in the right foreground. At left, near the knapsacks, is the largest sax horn we have ever seen in a photograph. It appears to be almost as large as a man and is identified by the image’s former owner as a sax horn bass.

The clarity of the photo is good but the contrast is a bit dark.

Image comes in a stamped brass decorative mat that has light surface dirt and a stamped brass frame that has tarnished on the lower right corner. [ad][ph:L]
