QUARTER-PLATE TINTYPE OF SEATED 6TH CORPS SOLDIER

$280.00 SOLD
Originally $350.00

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1138-1939

Image is a lap-up seated view of a Union soldier seated by a cloth covered table on which he rests his arm. Opposite the table is a heavy curtain with tasseled tiebacks that happen to drape the subject’s shoulder.

The soldier wears a dark 8-button shell jacket with a stand-up collar, slanting chest pocket and three-piece buttons that have been touched with gilt paint and light-colored trousers. Pinned to his chest, close by the slant pocket, is a small 6th Corps badge.

Contrast and clarity are excellent. Plate has some minor surface crazing and a few slight bends. None of the crazing touches the subject and it can only be seen if the image catches the light just right.

Decorative brass mat and stamped brass frame are present.

Image comes in a full split leather case

From the collection of the late William A. Turner.  [ad] [ph:L]
