Image is of two men seated side by and both posed with their legs crossed. What makes this photo interesting is that the men have taken off their jackets and are posed in their shirts with their sleeves rolled up.
The man at left wears suspenders, light-colored shirt, and trousers, with boots. He is also resting his hand on his friend’s shoulder. At his hip is a holstered revolver.
The fellow at right wears a shirt just a little darker than his friends, light-colored trousers and boots. The yoke on the front of this man’s shirt is unbuttoned and opened wide enough that part of it has flipped over causing the white lining of the shirt to be seen.
Contrast and clarity are good. Upper right looks to be stamped with a circular mark with some faint writing that looks to be either “BAR…” or “BAL…” The mark and writing is near the head of the right hand subject.
It is unknown if these two men are soldiers or tradesmen, either way it is unusual for people of that time to pose in a partial state of undress.
Image comes in a full case with repaired hinge, stamped brass frame and mat. Exterior of the case shows edge wear and chipping. The inside silk cushion also shows wear. [ad][ph:L]
