Offered here is a 1/4 plate tintype image of armed Union cavalryman in full case.
Image is of a standing Union soldier posing before a photographer’s painted canvas backdrop depicting a camp with palm trees. Soldier wears regulation piped shell jacket, and is holding a cavalry saber. He wears a forage cap.
Trousers are tinted blue, jacket piping tinted yellow, and brass highlighted in gilt.
Tin shows a few minor bends which do not affect the photo. Case is complete with heavy wear. Hinge looks to have been repaired with old cloth tape. [jet] [ph:L]
