CONFEDERATE COPPER TIME FUSE ADAPTER

$55.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 766-1253

This is the short pattern fuse adapter for use in spherical artillery shells. These replaced the Bormann time fuses, which had a high rate of failure, in the Spring of 1863 and continued to be used to the end of the war.

These adapters were cast and then turned on a lathe. This one is threaded with the typical 12 threads per inch. A central hole was drilled out to accept the paper time fuse. All featured a flanged head with two spanner holes. This specimen measures 1.33” long x 1.19” across the flange. This example has a sharp taper to the lower portion.

This fuse adapter is in good condition and has a green patina.   [jet]   [ph:m]
