Excavated coat-sized button with a face that consists of a large block letter “I” on a plain field with border. Intended for Confederate infantry. Face with only a portion of the tin back. No shank. The button face wears a mottled brown patina. Rusty portion of the tin back remains around the perimeter on reverse. Shank and center portion of back is missing.

Recovered around Culpeper, Virginia.    [jet] [ph:L]
