This Federal belt plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern and was recovered from Chancellorsville. The brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US” in the center. There is a nice dark patina on the face. Old white paint on the front around the edge reads, “From Battlefield / Chancellorsville, Va.”
Back has 100% lead fill. Has the “puppy paw” style belt hooks in place, but the third belt hook is broken off. This belt plate was reportedly acquired from a G.A.R. hall in Portland, Maine. [jet] [ph:L]
