This brass frame buckle meas. approx. 3.75 x 2.50 inches.
Across the center of the frame is a bar which holds a forked or “wishbone” style tongue that still moves freely.
The brass has a mixed patina throughout along with some surface dirt.
Plate was recovered in an 1862-1863 Confederate winter camp near Fredericksburg, Virginia.
This is an excellent example of a much-used Confederate plate. [sr] [ph:L]
