Standard regulation M1851 NCO sword belt plate measuring 52mm by 85mm. Although a wreath was present on this belt plate at one time, it is no longer present. Traces of the solder remain where the wreath once was attached. Some details of the integral eagle motif are smoothed out and are not clear and crisp. However, minor traces of the gilt finish remain on the high points.
The face of this sword belt plate shows a gray finish throughout.
Back of belt plate shows an integral tongue, which has been stamped with a bench number of “540.” The metal retains a gray brown finish overall.
This NCO sword belt plate was recovered in Orange, Virginia, a location at the center of the Virginia battlefields which was central to the Civil War. [cla] [ph:L]
