This is an excavated 3” Schenkl case shot (filled with lead shrapnel balls) artillery shell in excellent “dug” condition. Iron surface remains good with only light surface rusting typical of any relic.
Retains internal portion of zinc combination fuse within the shell body; exposed portion is gone. Uncoated but remains very stable with no active rusting. Deactivated (drilled down through fuse) and safe.
Recovered long ago at Antietam by long-time relic hunter Al Flickinger who owned a farm behind Little Round Top in Gettysburg. [jet] [ph:L]
