The fourth bar is stamped with “VOL. INF.”

At the very bottom is a plain star shaped drop. Stamped at center are crossed rifles with bayonets fixed and the lettering “VOL. INF.”

Badge is in good condition. There is some minor surface dirt and spots of oxidation but nothing that detracts from the item.

The 46th Pennsylvania was organized at Camp Curtin in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in early September of 1861. They saw action with the 5th, 12th and 20th Corps of the Army of the Potomac and the 2nd Corps of Pope’s Army of Virginia. They were engaged at 1st Winchester, Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Resaca, Dallas, New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek, Atlanta and Bentonville.

During the war the regiment lost 16 officers and 301 men killed, died of wounds and disease not to mention many others who were wounded and survived. The 46th is considered as one of Fox’s “300 Fighting Regiments.”  [ad] [ph:L]
