This rare badge is linked to one of the most famous artillery units to fight at Gettysburg – Rickett’s Battery – known for bearing the brunt of the Confederate assault on East Cemetery Hill. Batteries F and G resorted to hand-to-hand combat until US reinforcements secured the hilltop.
A complete, silver-plated pin brooch suspends a crimson silk ribbon, with embossed gold text and trefoil at center. The gold accenting has mostly worn away, with a few letters still highlighted. Everything remains perfectly legible. The top of the ribbon shows wear from contact with the brooch but remains securely attached. A complete strand of wire braiding is still firmly attached at bottom. The reverse is blank, with a circular surface spot stain. Dimensions are 1.8” x 5”.
An uncommon reunion badge, attributed to a famous Gettysburg unit. A must-have for the Gettysburg or Civil War Veterans collector. [cm][ph:L]
