Here is a colorful and nicely detailed veteran’s pin. Top, pin-bar portion features a wreath with likeness of G.A.R. membership medal atop draped flags. On this reads, “ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT / DELEGATE”. This portion has a bronze tone and has a spring pin on the back.
Two sets of small linked chain are attached at the bottom of this pin-bar and support a celluloid disk.
On the front of the disk is a colorful scene with large pine tree, cow, hay stacks, and text, “FREEDOM AND UNITY”. Back side reads, “47th ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT / DEPARTMENT / OF VERMONT / G.A.R. / ST. JOHNSBURY, APRIL 21-22, 1914.”
Accompanying the badge is the card to which it was originally attached. The text on the card, “Have You Thought of This?” reads very much like a sales pitch suggesting that a “few cents” extra can provide for this type of “suitable” souvenir badge, which we remain a pleasant reminder of the event.
A nice veteran’s encampment pin from Vermont. [jet] [ph:L]
