BEAUTIFUL GOLD TEXAS STAR BADGE FROM ALBERT SIDNEY JOHNSTON CAMP #144 OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

$795.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1179-2101

This very fine badge consists of a white metal pin bar at top, a red ribbon with brass ring at the bottom, and suspended from that is a finely engraved round gold medal.

The highlight is the gold medal which features an outer band, with a cut-out star in the center. Five 3-leaf clovers protrude from the outer band into the space between the points of the star. Finely engraved upon the outer band is, “FROM A.S.J. CAMP C.V. SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.” Each individual letter of “T E X A S” is engraved, one on each point of the star. In the center of the star is “March 1903-4”. On the backside is engraved “Com. J.B. Magruder.” Measures approximately 1.5” wide x 3.25” long overall.

The San Antonio, Texas, camp of the Albert Sidney Johnston Confederate Veterans was Camp #144. We do not know the significance of the Magruder inscription on the back since the engraved date on the front is 1903-4 while John B. Magruder died in 1871.

This is a rare Confederate Veterans’ medal in its own right; made even rarer with a TEXAS affiliation. [jet][ph:jet]
