Two-piece bronze toned United Confederate Veterans reunion badge. Whitehead & Hoag maker’s mark on reverse of top bar and planchet. Obverse “1908” in top arm of Greek Cross with “JUNE 9 10 11” vertically in left arm and “BIRMINGHAM” in right arm with foliate knot at bottom. Center is a Confederate flag leaning to the right with oval bust portraits in lower portion labeled “PETTUS” and “MORGAN,” referring to Alabama brigadier generals Edmund Pettus and John Tyler Morgan. The planchet is a round disk with foliate upper border, the center showing the CS raider “THE ALABAMA,” with “18th REUNION UNITED CONFEDERATE VETERANS.” in raised letters around the edge. Minor rubs and stains. A little thin green to Morgan’s forehead. The flag appears to be the 2nd National, with plain field and no suggestion of a red end stripe. We see no signs of enameling. No suspension pin. An interesting badge with triple references to Alabama’s role in the war. [sr][ph:m]
