US WORLD WAR TWO 38TH INFANTRY DIVISION SHIRT WITH RIBBONS AND EXTRAS

Khaki enlisted man’s shirt with tech-sergeant chevrons on each sleeve and a US Army Forces Pacific Ocean area patch on the left shoulder and a 38th Infantry Division patch on the right. All buttons are present and there is one small hole in the underside of the right sleeve. Cloth has light surface dirt from age and storage.

Above the left breast pocket is a three place ribbon bar with Asiatic-Pacific, Philippine Liberation with one campaign star and World War Two victory ribbons. Above that is a two place ribbon bar with the Army Good Conduct and American Theater ribbons and finally, pinned at top is an extra Asiatic-Pacific ribbon. Above the right pocket is a “Ruptured Duck” discharge patch.

Tucked away in the left breast pocket are the following items:

Another 38th Infantry Division patch

January 1946 dated military drivers license named to soldier

Three small red service stripes that look to be Japanese. These are sewn to a slip of paper with “INSIGNIA THREE YEARS SERVING. OFFICER-ENLISTED” written on it.

And an unmarked medal that has a red, white and blue ribbon with a circular drop that is blank but for a laurel wreath.

During World War Two the 38th Infantry Division deployed to the Pacific theater in January of 1944 and saw action on New Guinea, Luzon and the Southern Philippines. The division’s nickname was “THE AVENGERS OF BATAAN.” They helped to recapture Bataan, Corregidor and Manila Bay. The 38th lost a total of 3,464 men, 645 killed, 2,814 wounded and 5 missing.
