This helmet began life as an “apple green” Model 1916 helmet. Then, under the Nazis it was painted field gray, had a new liner and chinstrap added and a single army eagle decal attached to the left side. These helmets were issued to second line troops and for training.
The repainting of the helmet is obvious as there are visible brush strokes and some of the original apple green paint can be seen peeking through in areas. The painted surface has numerous small scuff marks, chips, and scratches from age but no dents. Decal has surface wear from rubbing but is 99% present. Helmet has “lug” type air vents and a rolled edge.
Interior has the old chin strap attachments on the skirts while the crown has the World War Two era metal ring with the Model 1931 tan leather liner and drawstring. Lower edge of the liner shows moderate wear but is NOT torn or split. Black leather chinstrap is present and 98% intact with only the tip missing.
Helmet has no visible markings. [ad] [ph:L]
