A good US World War One M1917 helmet with red painted six-pointed star 6th Division insignia. The sweatband, netting, and chinstrap, marked 6 ¾, are in place and in good condition. Part of the paper instructions label is still there as well. The underside of the brim is stamped “D/F 83.” The star has a nice muted red color. There are two small flakes at left and right center. The overall helmet paint shows rubs and wear spots, but is good, showing rough sand surface underneath, and has just a few small brown spots on the underside of the band around the brim. The division went overseas in June 1918, and saw 43 days of combat losing 38 killed and 348 wounded. 386 in combat in the Geradmer sector in Vosges, France, September 3 –October 18, 1918, and the Meuse-Argonne 1–11 November 11 – 11, 1918, with its 11th Field Artillery Battalion engaged earlier in the Meuse-Argonne offensive from October 19 to Nov. 11.
