This was worn by a non-commissioned officer of the Allgemaine SS (Schutzstaffel), the black SS, the political SS. Made of field service but excellent quality black wool it has a double set of silver color pebbled buttons. All are intact and all "SS" marked on the back. This is an early example that has a single sew-in shoulder board which still has a portion of the paper "RZM" label on the underside. Both the collar tabs in addition to the collar itself are piped in silver and black twisted cording. The right collar tab has the embroidered number "25" which is Essen region. The rank collar tab is that of a Oberscharfuher. There are some moth nips out of this collar tab but of no significance. The cuff title indicates that the coat was an NCO from the 4th Company in Sturmbann. The SS armband is genuine but added later. This size 40 coat is lined in black and there is a white stenciled "56" and the owners initials "E.F." chain stitched in place. The interior pocket retains the original oil cloth "SS RZM" tag. On the interior black wool section under the pocket lining is a large stenciled "SS RZM". Coming with a letter of authenticity from Bill Shea of Hubbardston Massachusetts, this is an impossible to find original. [pe][ph:L]
