MODEL 1849 COLT POCKET REVOLVER MANUFACTURED IN 1866

$950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3885

Presented here is a classic Colt revolver commonly referred to as the 1849 Pocket Model.

This personal sidearm, in very good original condition overall, features a 5” long, octagonal barrel matched to a .31 caliber, six-shot cylinder that has a roll pressed design retaining nearly all of the “stagecoach” scene. Safety pins are all hammered down. All serial numbers (281968) match, including wedge. Number indicates that this was manufactured in early 1866.

“ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA” is stamped on the top facet of the barrel. The standard “COLTS / PATENT” is stamped on the left side of the frame as is “31 CAL”. Screw heads are in good condition.

Gun metal is light gray color overall. Revolver is mechanically sound. Cylinder freely spins at half cock.

Grips are of varnished, one-piece, walnut in good condition. Slight gap between front edge at top and the frame. Back strap and the trigger guard are brass with perhaps no original silver-plated wash remaining.

Known as the successor to the Baby Dragoon, the Model 1849 Pocket was a small version of the Model 1851 Navy revolver and proved ever popular through its end of production in 1873. Here is a very good example of this Colt firearm.  [jet] [ph:L]
